in a world of war and strife

Lantern Carriers spread light and love where ever their calling takes them. Whether it is by physical travel or on a spiritual journey, a Lantern Carrier helps others to open their eyes to what is happening in the world today -- and how we can stand up to save Mother Earth from those in control who are determined to destroy all the beauty in it for their own benefit and power.

Who is a Lantern Carrier? They are a special breed of people of any faith, religion, or belief system. Their special meeting place is in the heart of humanity, in the spirit of Mother Earth, and among their brothers and sisters world-wide. Sometimes a few may gather in one place and when they do, it is like being in a joyful, peaceful home where harmony and balance reign.

A Lantern Carrier is one who stands up for those who are too weak to help themselves. When one is given love, light, and hope, it enables them to stand stronger and have faith in themselves.

If we could stand up for ourselves, for our families, friends, and communities there is much we can do to make our world a better place to live in. We put people in office to do what is right for the people and something gets twisted around along the way. It is like the world is upside down -- is it not the people the leaders are supposed to be working for? Do the people even matter anymore? Are our voices no longer heard?

Many may think that it is impossible to live in a world of peace and love. Yet it can be started. It starts with one person who carries a lantern of light to someone in the wilderness of life. A cry in the wilderness is heard and a Lantern Carrier responds. Another light is lit, another person is helped to their feet, and then there are two to carry on that light.

From one Lantern Carrier, one tiny flicker of light, if fed properly, can become a bonfire of humanity's desire for peace and a Beautiful Flow of Spirit.

Someone once told me that I am naive to think that the peoples of different nations, cultures, traditions, can stand together as brothers and sisters to bring about peace. Am I naive? I do not think so. I have a dream about world peace and I do not think I am unique in that thought. No achievement has ever been made without first having a dream -- and I believe there are many times many people out there who have this same dream. We just have to light a lantern and let that light and dream shine and multiply!

We were not meant to be puppets on tight strings. We are individuals with our own thoughts and needs. We know what our families and communities need and we want our leaders to listen to us and put our money to work for the people, not for the leaders and for wars we did not ask for. Why must our money and our defensive support be spread around the world when there is so much need right here? It not just my country that has this problem, other countries have the same issues, the safety and needs of their own people seem to come last.

If the leaders we put in office cannot keep a lit lantern in their windows for the needs of their own people, then we need to stand on our own feet and light our own lanterns -- which is better than just hoping that our leaders will take care of our needs.

It is our own spirituality, whatever path one chooses, that will save us. We all will eventually go to the same place, we may have different messengers, but there is only one destination: eternal peace. It is not impossible to begin World Peace and to see it come to pass. It all starts with one person, one lantern. It may have started many many years ago by just one lone person who decided he/she had had enough. Well, that one little lantern was lit and it has reached more people and more lanterns. It has reached me, and I pray I can reach others to help that light, that bonfire to grow.

A Lantern Carrier is an asset to this world and I strive to be one, but I am so not alone. The light is within each of us. We are children of the Universe and the need and desire for peace and harmony is in the hearts of all the people, regardless of which country they live in, or what faith they belief in.

A Lantern Carrier is one to help the old, the tired, the hungry, the weak, and other lost souls of humanity. His/her life is not easy, nor is it filled with wealth and riches untold of material value. Their riches are not of this world -- they are riches of the heart and soul, of the spirit that ever learns and grows. When a lonely, lost soul has been helped, the joy of one who has found peace, the light in their eyes when they have found their truths -- these are his treasures of wealth.

He hears a cry in the wilderness, a spiritual call for help and he journeys to follow the sound of weeping. From a deep dark pit he hears the anguish, the pain and reaches down to lend a hand to one who is lost in a self-created hell. He does not seek glory, nor will he be glorified in life. A Lantern Carrier is as human as you and I. He sheds tears of joy, or tears of sorrow for others -- he feels their pain, he feels their joys and he heals with the gift the Creator has given him.

A Lantern Carrier does not seek praise or expects thanks. If one thanks him/her for the help it is appreciated -- yet the help comes for higher up, from the spiritual realm of whatever higher being one believes in.

When others of strong belief that differs from his/hers come to for knowledge, and support they are not turned away. The Lantern Carrier holds on to the hand that reaches out and hears their story, their pain and struggles. He acknowledges and admires their strengths to stand strong in their own beliefs.

The Lantern Carrier carries with him or her a light that never wavers or dims.

A Light in the Window

My father was a Lantern Carrier. He was a healer of lost souls and prayed more than anyone I have ever known. He prayed for people he did not even know. He read the news all the time and prayed for people in other countries who were hurting or wronged. He prayed for the forgotten souls that would have been lost for eternity if someone had not seen their spirits wandering among the halls and grounds of the mental hospital we passed by every Sunday on our drives to the country or to Grandpa and Grandma's house. He often told me when I was a child to keep my lantern lit, and to always keep a light on in my window. Until I became a Spiritual Coach to help others find their spiritual path in life, I did not really understand what Father meant. Now I know. Thank you, Dad.

Blessed Be

We can all be "Latern Carriers" of sorts within some area of life. When we lay our agendas aside and work for the common good, then we are lighting the way for others to see the corrupt and misleading ways of others and make their own determinations. For us, the challenge is to trust but verify as some among us will pose as lantern carriers with the premise of improving things only to promote their own aims. We must have trust but we must verify as well. Good piece Phyllis...thanks much for sharing it. WB

Thanks, Wayne. You have some really good, positive thoughts about working for the common good and lighting the way for others. Yes, I agree, we must have trust. There are those in power who are working for the good of all and to those we should give our trust. Can I vote UP and AWESOME on your comment?

Tammy, thanks so much. Your compliments are so appreciated. I think anyone who helps another without any expectations is a lantern carrier. There seems to be a lot right here at HubPages.

Wow, Phyllis. I was blown away by the power of your words in this post. I believe that world peace will happen. The world has grown tired of all the lies and corruption that has been going on for years and years. We have the tools to transform our world. We also outnumber the negative elite. Writers, such as you, are bringing vital information to the public. The next step is action.

Thank you for sharing this important post with us, Phyllis.

Terry, I cannot thank you enough for your message. I always thought to myself: if I can light just one lantern that can light another and another, etc. I would be so happy. Reading what others are saying and agreeing with me about world peace means so much to the world. I know there are so many others who feel the same and all we have to do is gather (in spirit, on the internet, in person) and stand together. Thank you so much for your comments.

I just experienced awhile ago one of the most beautiful things a person can see and it is such a gift to me. Two friends who have gone through so many struggles in life, have had many differences of opinions, have in the past bitterly fought (verbally), and turned away from each other, have come together in peace.

They helped each other through a trying time, came together in peace and love and have lit so many other lanterns that there must be a bonfire out there somewhere. I cannot express the joy this brings to my heart, to see these two who are dear friends of mine, create such love and support for each other.

Wonderful piece, Phyllis. You are indeed a, "lantern carrier." Happy to have read this. Maybe you should add your last comment to the end of your hub, to make sure everyone sees it. I have no doubt, your belief in a world of peace, helped bring your friends back together.

Lovely, lovely. Your hub never mentions religious yet has such religious overtones. There is that song, "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine..." Your hub is a perfect example. I do believe, as you do, we can live in peace in this world. My mother also prayed for everyone and I can only hope to someday be as holy and devout as she was. Thanks for the beautiful reminder.
